Have you reached the age of 18, and are you a EU citizen with a permanent address in Denmark? Then you are entitled to vote at the European Parliament Elections in Denmark on 7 June 2009
EU citizens who have a permanent address in Denmark and who by or before the election day have reached 18 years of age are entitled to vote in the European Parliamentary elections in Denmark, unless they have been deprived of their legal capacity under a guardianship order (legally incapacitated).
If you have registered with a local national registration office in Denmark, you are considered to have a permanent address in Denmark.
What do I have to do to vote?
In order for you to exercise your voting right, that is the right to cast your vote in the elections, you must first be enrolled in the electoral register.
Enrolment in the electoral register for EU citizens is subject to application only. If you wish to cast your vote in the elections in Denmark, you must therefore fill in the answers to the questions on the front of the application form (which you will find to your right) and submit your application to the local national registration office of your residential municipality.
If you were enrolled in the electoral register at the European Parliamentary elections in 2004, you are not required to renew your application in order to be enrolled in the electoral register for the elections on Sunday, 7 June 2009, unless you in the meantime have moved either abroad or to the Faroe Islands or Greenland or according to your own wish have been struck off the electoral register.
When do I have to apply?
The deadline for application to the local national registration office was Monday, 4 May 2009. It is therefore no longer possible to apply to be enrolled in the electoral register for the 2009 European Parliament Elections in Denmark.
What happens next?
The application is considered and decided by the local national registration office. If the information provided in the application is insufficient, or the details do not match the records of the local national registration office, the registration office will notify you accordingly and ask you for additional information.
How long will I be registered?
If your application for enrolment in the electoral register is granted, you will continue to be enrolled in the electoral register for as long as you stay in Denmark. Therefore, you will automatically, that is without the need for reapplication, be enrolled in the electoral register for the next European Parliamentary elections provided you have not moved neither abroad, nor to the Faroe Islands or Greenland in the meantime.
What if I decide to vote in my home country?
You may disenrol from the electoral register at any time by filing a request with the local national registration office in your residential municipality to this effect. Disenrolment from the electoral register for the European Parliamentary elections of 7 June 2009 requires that you file a request for disenrolment with the local national registration office not later than Friday, 22 May 2009.
